Horn player and sound poet Nicolee Kuester engages with a variety of orchestral, chamber, and experimental musics, as well as writing and performing original sound text pieces. As an advocate for new music, she often commissions and performs works by young composers. She recently completed international tours with the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Orquesta de Baja California, and has performed with the Lucerne Festival Academy, the San Diego New Music Society, and the Palimpsest Ensemble at UC San Diego. As an orchestral musician she has appeared with the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera, and as a soloist with the La Jolla Symphony. Nicolee has presented chamber music in southern California and at the Marlboro Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, and the Sarasota Music Festival.
As a text performer, Nicolee presents her work across the United States and Europe, most recently completing a commission to create performance texts for members of the sight-specific installation work House-Art/Art-House at the North Norway Arts Festival in Harstad, Norway. Recent texts have been published in AMOR FORENSE: Birds in shorts city: An Anthology of Bodies Writing in San Diego and in the online journal littletell.
She graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory with a BMus in Horn Performance and a BA in Creative Writing, and received her MA in Contemporary Horn Performance from UC San Diego, where she is currently persuing her DMA.
